hey maquoketa,
i have a great idea. the ymca is good but when you thought about putting the ymca in did you ever think about maybe just maybe putting some jobs in town? with all of the jobs leaving maquoketa, who can afford this little bit of fun. all of the buildings that remain empty could be occupied by hard working people wanting to make a living for their families.
if there were jobs paying more than just barely over minimum wage maybe people wouldn't be so inspired to stay on state assistance.
why work for minimum wage when for just $20 less i can get nearly the same amount of money and just stay home. there is now reason why clinton engines had to be buried. there could have been great jobs there. the economy had little to do with the jobs leaving. at least rodney carson can bury the last soul with a good heart fealt funeral service as the old timers slowly leave or pass on.with very few people having incentives to grow in maquoketa i can see the candle slowly burn out. there are not many options , WAKE UP!

hey shelly, where in arizona do you speak about the arizona PD. I totally agree. police dont want to make an arrest unless it runs a chance of getting noticed in the press. i was robbed over the 4th of july weekend. we knew who did it we knew where my stuff was at but the police didnt want to look in to the case. the " defective detective" said and i quote" why don't you just put a claim into your home owners insurance because it's not such a dollar amount to be concerned about.". i have a customer thru the car dealership i work for who contacted me after his customer info was accessed from the computer that was stolen. this person was in law enforcement. it didnt take long to catch the crook.
so i really think the cops need to look at each case. the person doing taxidermy is doing so to put food on the table. who can knock him for that.
most of the laws are created not for safety but for revenue. since mr felderman wasn't lisenced they govt. couldn't pinpoint where his income is so they can tax him. now that he got caught, they can impose fines to collect money for the govt. now we have a little bit to pay these hardly hard working cops. sorry i used to think police were ok but they are nothing short of nazis. the cops out here in AZ are pretty bad.
i guess i shouldnt put all cops in the same bunch as mesa, az , afterall, mesa, az has the worst chief of police in the business, our chief was the assistant chief during the L.A. riots then he gets moved here.
for the love of god please maquoketa , stay small town and have some pride. big isn't always better.

wondering if possible to list winners in the Arts and crafts at the 2008 Jackson Co. Fair. Would like to see some of the interesting wood crafts done this year. For instance the wooden carved Farris Wheel. Use to live in the timber city and always like to keep uptodate on Maquoketa happenings. Thank you
