UPDATE:
Officials said 29 fire departments in Jackson, Clinton, Jones, Delaware and Scott counties and two departments from Illinois helped battle the blaze.

Around 2:30 am Saturday morning a major fire broke out and spread to multiple businesses downtown Maquoketa.
16 FIRE DEPARTMENS WERE ON THE SCENE AND AROUND 50 FIRE VEHICLES.
Fire crews from throughout eastern Iowa are on the scene of a devastating fire in Maquoketa. The fire has destroyed several downtown businesses. Tenants in nearby apartments were evacuated overnight as embers from the fire flew onto the roof of the apartment buildings.

The Gateway Chapter of the American Red Cross opened a warming shelter this morning at the Maquoketa Community Center at 506 S Eliza Street. Maquoketa residents temporary displaced from the fire, or those who have lost power can get a hot meal and a place to stay warm.
